Myofasia Release – What is it?

Written by: Tracy Date of published: . Posted in Uncategorized

So Myofascial Release – what is it?  Myofascialrelease.com say it is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue. By releasing any restrictions it can help to eliminate pain and restore motion. Myofasia Release-What is it?

What is Fascia? The fascia is a type of connective tissue that wraps most structures within the body, including muscle and its purposes is to support and protect these structures. It is thought that this soft tissue can become restricted due to trauma, overuse, inactivity or infection which leads to pain and tension.

What is the treatment?  Each Myofascial Release massage (MRM) is performed directly on skin without oils or creams.  This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.

What ailments can be helped by Myofasia Release?

  • Back Pain.
    • MRM is extremely helpful in reducing back pain by restoring the motion and flexibility of the entire spine by treating the front and back. It also looks at the pelvis which is considered to be the foundation of the spine.
  • Bulging Disc.
    • MRM decreases tightness in the tissues surrounding the spine to prevent further herniation and decrease pain and symptoms.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
    • MRM decreases the tightness of the tissues in the chest, neck, and arms. Therefore this allows the nerves to glide easily and freely to eliminate symptoms.
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
    • MRM decreases tightness and eliminates fascial tissue restrictions. This helps to eliminate pain, restore mobility, and eliminate exhaustion.
  • Fibromyalgia .
    • MRM decreases restrictions throughout the body to re-gain optimal flexibility and improve energy levels. This in turn can help to restore normal sleeping patterns and resolve pain.
  • Headaches and migraines.
    • MRM decreases tightness and restores mobility of the tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord, restores optimal postural alignment as well as the alignment of the bones of the head to alleviate symptoms and prevent future occurrence of headaches and migraines.

Other ailments include herniated discs,  menstrual  problems, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, neck pain, Plantar Fascitis, Sciatica and more.

Getting started with Mindfulness.

Written by: Tracy Date of published: . Posted in Uncategorized

At A Healing Touch we are all about self-care, it is so important to take care of yourself. Getting started with Mindfulness can be another part of your self-care routine. Treating yourself to regular treatments, is also extremely important in this.

What is mindfulness?Getting started with Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the basic ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing. It also means to not be overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on in the world around us. Mindful.org say ‘The goal of mindfulness is to wake up to the inner workings of our mental, emotional, and physical processes’.

There is always there’s growing research showing that when you train your brain to be mindful, you’re actually remodelling the physical structure of your brain.

How do I practice mindfulness?

Mindfulness is available to us in every moment, whether through meditation or mindful moment practices, which can be as simple as taking a moment to breathe before answering the phone, instead of answering it immediately.

The Basics of Mindfulness Practice

Here’s how to tune into mindfulness throughout the day (taken from mindful.org):

  1. Set aside some time. You don’t need a meditation cushion or bench, or any sort of special equipment to access your mindfulness skills—but you do need to set aside some time and space.
  2. Observe the present moment as it is. The aim of mindfulness is not quieting the mind, or attempting to achieve a state of eternal calm. The goal is simple: we’re aiming to pay attention to the present moment, without judgment. Easier said than done, we know.
  3. Let your judgments roll by. When we notice judgments arise during our practice, we can make a mental note of them, and let them pass.
  4. Return to observing the present moment as it is. Our minds often get carried away in thought. That’s why mindfulness is the practice of returning, again and again, to the present moment.
  5. Be kind to your wandering mind. Don’t judge yourself for whatever thoughts crop up, just practice recognizing when your mind has wandered off, and gently bring it back.

That’s the practice. It’s often been said that it’s very simple, but it’s not necessarily easy. The work is to just keep doing it.  A great website to look about getting started with Mindfulness is www.mindful.org
