Black Friday is the term used for the day after Thanksgiving in the USA. This day traditionally marks the start of the Christmas shopping season. Many stores offer highly promoted sales and discounts.
Also known as Fireworks Night, the true name of Bonfire Night is actually Guy Fawkes Night. This is an annual commemoration observed on 5th November, involving bonfires and fireworks displays.
Its history dates all the way back to 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was arrested while guarding explosives the plotters had placed under the House of Lords. Their intention was to kill the King James I and his parliament. Celebrating that the king had survived, people lit bonfires around London.
These days, we celebrate Bonfire Night by launching fireworks into the sky. Many also still light bonfires, and some even burn a 'Guy' - an effigy of Guy Fawkes himself!
Good question! We are delighted to be offering you the chance to win a sizzling 30 minute Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage by liking/sharing/commenting on our Facebook or Instagram post, before 5th November.
All you need to do is:
-Like A Healing Touch's Facebook or Instagram page
-Like the Bonfire Night post
-Tag a friend in the post - the more tags, the more entries you get into the draw!
-Share the post to your page/stories
Once you have done all of the above, you will be entered into the draw!
The winner will be drawn on the morning of 6th November. Please note, the winning massage will take place at our Horley treatment room, Monday-Friday (evening appointments are available).
Do you know how much water you should drink and do you think you drink enough?
A lot of people believe that you should drink around 2 litres of water a day but you would be surprised to know that you should be aiming more towards 3 litres a day! It does sound like a lot and at first you will probably be making many trips to the toilet but this is normal. Give it some time and your body will soon adjust!
So why do we suggest drinking 3 litres of water per day? The body can become inflamed and go into fight or flight mode. Not drinking enough water will cause muscular aches and pains and in turn this could cause back pain. Drinking lots of water will help to keep the muscles hydrated and supple and so lessening the strain on your back. Another plus side of drinking lots of water is that it is great for the skin - not drinking enough can give you wrinkles due to the flexibility in the skin tone!
Do you spend a lot time on your phone? Think about it, our heads weighs around 10-11 pounds and our brains are about 3 pounds. So every time you are looking down at your phone, you are placing extra pressure on your neck. This in turn can place pressure on the rest of your back. There is a simple remedy to this - simply put down your phone for longer.
Our bodies are not designed to sit down for long periods of time. Many of us work at computers a lot and it is often the case that we do not sit correctly. Poor posture when sitting or standing is a common cause of back pain. If you do spend a lot time sitting, try to ensure that every 30 minutes you get up and get moving for a few minutes. You can even do some stretches or pelvic tilts which will help relieve any aches or pains.
Not only can sitting too much give you back pain, Did you know ...
Often a reason for feeling stiff when you wake in the morning is due to a lack of exercise and movement. To lessen the chances of back pain, follow the handy tips below for sleeping and get moving during the day:
We hope that these little hints and tips will help you to deal with your back pain. Of course, a good Deep Tissue Massage can work wonders for back pain. Get yours booked in now.
Indian Head Massage is an ancient therapeutic treatment that has been practiced in India for thousands of years. Part of the Hindu health care practice of Ayurveda, Indian Head Massage focuses on your head, neck and shoulders and was originally used to improve scalp and hair condition. It is a deep massage, using a variety of pressure and techniques, including circular massage strokes on your scalp, deep tissue work on your shoulders, and stretching the neck.
This form of massage focuses on the three higher "chakras" - mind, body and spirit. It won't just relax you, it will make you feel detached and serene but also alert and clear-headed, alleviating brain-fog and stress.
A Healing Touch will chat with you beforehand to get an idea of your lifestyle, any particular aches, pains or ailments you have. She may ask you if you are having any medical treatments or taking medicines, as this might affect which oils she uses, and what type of pressure and technique. Be prepared for the fact that some of the massage will be quite firm - it can be quite an odd sensation to have your skull massaged but stick with it. The results are worth it!!!
